Our Year one and two class is an extremely colourful and engaging classroom environment where excellent teaching creates the success of the children’s learning and development.
Sycamore Class offers a range of learning experiences, differentiated activities to cater for all learners and their needs. We like to allow the children to express their ideas with each termly topic through Bright Sparks which allows all pupils to improve their engagement, communicational skills and to become a learning community.
Sycamore Class is an exciting and vibrant classroom with various areas that connect to the curriculum within the Foundation Phase. These include ‘Sycamore’s Starbooks’ (reading area), literacy area, mathematics area, construction and role play.
The pupils of Sycamore Class have developed the outdoor area by raising money through our Enterprise Project partnered with the ‘Bumbles of Honeywood’ to enhance the area to be fun yet educational. Sycamore Class have access to the outdoor learning environment in the grounds beyond the classroom which include a nature reserve, outdoor classroom and a spacious field and playground.
The children are taught the importance of looking after our school environment and to care about the nature and wildlife that surrounds the school and community. Each year we adopt an animal from either Folly Farm or the World Wildlife Fund to help endangered animals of the world and to provide the children an understanding of the importance to care for all living creatures.
My aim is to create a positive and enriched environment to help the children to be challenged and independent learners.
In Sycamore Class we have lots of exciting experiences which range from art exhibitions, Forest School, science experiments, mental maths and trips throughout the year to compliment our termly topics.
The children are engaged in an environment that encourages them to be independent and creative thinkers, able to solve problems and use their initiative. I encourage good habits within Sycamore Class. This includes allowing the children to have ownership on their Class Rules, to read regularly at home, learn times tables, practise spellings and cursive handwriting. Each half term the children have a learning log project to complete which provides an opportunity to extend in-school learning, and to work with parents at home.
I am very proud of all the pupils in Sycamore Class and look forward to seeing their achievements and progress during their academic year.
Please bring your child to school dressed in their P.E. kit on their designated day.
It is encouraged for Year 1 and 2 of Sycamore Class to have a daily healthy snack.
Sycamore Class can provide your child with snack at a cost of £1 per week or a termly payment can be made (Miss Boughton provides this within the termly newsletter).
Pupils are welcome to bring in their own healthy snack if preferred. Snack is not mandatory however the option to have one is accepted and encouraged.
